Congresswoman Johnson Statement on Impeachment Proceedings
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) today released the following statement:
“I am undoubtedly troubled by the recent reports of the President’s conversation with a foreign leader, in which he requested damaging information on a fellow American for personal political gain, in light of the withholding of congressionally-approved military aid,” said Congresswoman Johnson.
“As a Member of Congress, it is within my constitutional duties to conduct oversight over the President and his Administration. Therefore, I expect that all information regarding the whistleblower’s complaint be turned over to the relevant committees in Congress for immediate review, as mandated by federal law.
“If the decision is made by the President and his Administration to withhold this information from Congress, or if the allegations of his abuse of power are substantiated, I will be placed in a position where I must fulfill my constitutional duty and support impeachment proceedings.”
