Congresswoman Johnson’s Statement on the 28th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

Jul 26, 2018
Press Release

Washington, DCCongresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson released the following statement on the 28th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

“In the 28 years since we passed the Americans with Disabilities Act, our country has made great strides in making our buildings, roads and other facilities more accessible for all Americans. This is not an accomplishment but one step in our journey to make a more perfect country. The ADA has been a promise to Americans living with disabilities that they have the same right to opportunity and full participation as any other American. This law is more than just making buildings wheelchair accessible. It is about protecting differently-abled Americans from discrimination and ensuring they live lives of dignity. As we observe the anniversary of this paramount law’s passage, I remain committed to defending the ADA and what it represents – our promise to treating all Americans with kindness and respect – from those seeking to undo the progress it has brought.”
