Congresswoman Johnson Announces $60.76 Million Federal Grant to DART for Light Rail Platform Extensions
DALLAS, TX – Today, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced that the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded a $60.76 million grant to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for the purpose of light rail platform extensions on the Red and Blue light rail lines.
“As the senior Texan on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I am pleased to see the FTA invest in DART and recognize the need for an efficient light rail system in the City of Dallas,” said Congresswoman Johnson. “The improvements made to DART’s Red and Blue lines will increase ridership while reducing congestion and maintaining a top-quality rider experience.”
The project will lengthen platforms at 28 stations along the existing Red and Blue lines that currently can accommodate only two-car trains. When the project is complete, all stations on these lines will be able to accommodate three-car trains.
