On February 20th, 2017, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson hosted the 22nd Annual State of the District Prayer Breakfast at the Music Hall at Fair Park.  This event was a special time for faith-based leaders to offer prayers for the citizens of North Texas and have a discussion on a wide range of subjects in order to foster learning, inspiration and collaboration to better serve our shared community.

The following religious community leaders offered prayers and remarks that united our community in thoughtful discussion: Imam Omar Sulieman (Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research), Rabbi Nancy Kasten (Faith-Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square), Reverend Claude O. Maples (Greater Dallas Congress of National Black Churches Inc.), Reverend Dr. Zan W. Holmes, Jr. (St. Luke Community United Methodist Church), Reverend Dr. George R. Collins (Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church).

The keynote speaker for the event was Reverend Dr. Michael W. Waters. Dr. Waters is the founder and Senior Pastor of Joy Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. He is an award-winning author, professor, activist and commentator.  He continues to offer a fresh perspective that is real and relevant on how to address issues that impact our community and nation.

All of these leaders spoke honestly and passionately about whay they see as opportunities to unite our community even further.
